Imagining Possibilities: Envisioning New Worlds
In May 2024, Community-Centered Knowledges (CCK) had the joy and privilege of participating in the second annual Black Wellness Summit, a powerful culmination of Mental Health Awareness Week. Centered around the theme “Imagining Possibilities: Envisioning New Worlds,” the summit brought together Black communities to celebrate resilience, share in joy, and dream up new ways of being, healing, and thriving.
Over a weekend of connection and reflection, participants gathered to break bread, dance, share stories, and explore what holistic wellness can truly look like when rooted in love, care, and community. CCK was honoured to contribute to this vibrant space by hosting our Exploring Wellness workshop—an interactive experience facilitated by Kristen Young and Zalikha Konaté.
As part of CCK’s ongoing work—funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)—this workshop reflects our broader commitment to understanding how Black communities in Montreal define, sustain, and imagine wellness. Through community gatherings like the Black Wellness Summit, CCK continues to explore how intersectional experiences shape our paths to healing, and how Black-serving organizations can better support these evolving needs.
Together, we’re building toward a future where Black wellness is not only prioritized but celebrated. Through workshops, retreats, and a forthcoming knowledge hub, we’re asking: What does care look like when it’s created by us, for us?
This summit reminded us of what’s possible when we come together—with open hearts and bold imaginations—to shape new worlds filled with joy, justice, and healing.
