March Edition
Exploring Wellness is an interactive workshop that invites participants to reflect on Black wellness through conversation and creative expression. Together, we’ll co-create a shared understanding of what wellness means within our communities—how it lives in our bodies, and how we speak about it with one another.
The session, facilitated by Zalikha Konaté and Samantha Nyinawumuntu, encourages open dialogue around how we experience and sustain wellness in our daily lives. Participants are invited to share personal insights, explore embodied feelings of wellbeing, and exchange thoughtful practices that support care and connection.
This event is part of Community-Centered Knowledges: Fostering Black Wellness in Montreal—a SSHRC-funded community-university research project that centers the voices of Black organizers, thinkers, and community members. Together, we’re building sustainable, race-conscious, and community-driven responses to wellness needs through creative, participatory approaches like workshops, retreats, and a future conference. By gathering, we’re reimagining what it means to care for one another—and ourselves.
March Reflections
Healing is not meant to be done alone. In our second Exploring Wellness workshop, we welcomed a cohort of seven individuals, each seeking comfort and connection within the community. Together, we reflected on the importance of showing up for ourselves, especially when we feel stuck or in need of a fresh start.
Through an introspective exercise using astrological cards, each participant selected a card that revealed a unique statement. These statements served as prompts for reflection, encouraging participants to explore how the messages resonated in their current lives.
It was a beautiful reminder that healing, growth, and reflection are always more powerful when shared.
